CONSULTATIONS
Surestart Early Years Consultation
Have your say on future Early Years services in Manchester
Our services for 0 - 5 year olds are changing and we want as many people as possible to influence the decisions we make.
We have been proud of our childcare offer for many years, but the difficult economic climate means Manchester City Council, like many other authorities across the country, must find new ways of working.
In February 2011, as part of our drive to meet the challenge, we announced plans for significant changes to our Early Years and Sure Start services.
Since then we have:
- had an independent review of how we run things
- listened to parents and carers
- looked at services provided by other organisations.
Now we can tell you exactly what we are proposing and listen to your views through a city-wide consultation, which will begin on 3 October and finish in January next year. Following consultation, the changes agreed will take place gradually over the next four years.

Short Breaks Service Statement
As part of the new short break duty, each local authority is required to produce a short breaks services statement so that families know what services are available, the eligibility criteria for these services, and how the range of short breaks are designed to meet the local needs of families with disabled children.
