Manchester Parent Carer Network was formed in 2010 and was funded by the Government. Many parent carers in Manchester worked really hard to ensure regular information events were held and the website was available to all parent carers.
In 2012 Manchester City Council formed a new group called Parents for Change with some of the members of MPCN, they decided to apply for Government funding of £10,000 and start a new website without asking any parents in Manchester.
MPCN is no longer funded by any Government initiative, we as original members of the MPCN did not want to see all our efforts go to waste and have decided to run MPCN as a parent led group which has the freedom to express opinions and highlight issues affecting children in Manchester with disabilities and special educational needs.
We do not believe any group involved with Manchester City Council can be impartial and would question the agenda being driven by a City Council led group.
MPCN will be an open forum to discuss issues around parenting a child with a disability, we do not believe endless meetings and consultations make a difference.
As parents we are creating a place where discussion is free and opinion is valued.
